Description
Farmers who held over, with mortgagee's permission, on their mortgaged farm after foreclosure and expiration of the redemption
period, who sustained a pecuniary loss, who repaired the destroyed property, who eventually repurchased the farm, and who
had a right of first refusal pursuant to Minn. Stat. § 500.24, subd. 6 held an insurable interest in the farmhouse they possessed. The plaintiffs, Earl and Vonette Crowell, brought an action for declaratory relief against Delafield Farmers Mutual Fire
Insurance Company (hereinafter "Delafield") after it refused to pay the Crowells for the loss of a farmhouse destroyed by
fire. Delafield claimed that the Crowells had no insurable interest in the property at the time of the fire.
